Aalto’s Villa Mairea, built in 1939, featured one of the earliest documented free-form swimming pools, replacing rigid rectangular shapes with flowing, organic curves.

Years later, that design language helped inspire the curved California pools that became skateboarding’s proving grounds when droughts left them empty in the 1970s. The Nike SB x Beyond Store Dunk High honors Aalto’s Scandinavian functionalism through a clean, timeless design built with intentional details. The white upper gives the shoe a minimalist foundation, while the birch-toned Swoosh nods to Aalto’s iconic furniture and natural material palette.

 A red brick-inspired outsole references one of Aalto’s signature architectural materials, adding warmth and depth beneath the crisp upper. The heel features a blue glazed brick-inspired detail, echoing textures and colors used throughout Aalto’s work. Finished as a high-top Nike SB Dunk, the shoe blends skate function with architectural storytelling, creating a sneaker that feels refined, meaningful, and built to remain relevant for years to come.
